Athletes will run along the coastal road of Quy Nhon City in Binh Dinh Province, passing through famous locations such as Quang Trung Statue, Nguyen Tat Thanh Square, and Thi Nai Bridge. The route is endorsed by the International Association of Athletics Federations and the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races.

Speaking at a press conference in HCMC on April 9, the organizers said the event is expected to attract some 5,000 runners for four distances, including 5, 10, 21, and 42 kilometers. The event is open to runners of all ages, either professional or amateur.

There will also be the Run for Kids which is specially designed for children and their parents. A portion of ticket revenue will be donated to the construction of a primary school.

According to the organizers, some 3,500 runners have put their names down for the marathon up to now, with 35% being female runners and 100 foreigners. They will award the first, second and third prizes for each distance. Particularly, the female champion and male champion of the 42-kilometer race will each pocket VND75 million.

Ta Xuan Chanh, director of the Binh Dinh Department of Culture and Sports, said the VnExpress Marathon - VM Quy Nhon 2019 will not only encourage the spirit of sportsmanship among the community but also contribute to promoting the province’s tourism.
