Fishermen to face hefty fine if found trespassing into foreign waters

Binh Dinh Province’s authorities were asked to be determined to punish local fishermen, who have continued risking foreign waters intrusion.

Officials are checking documents of ships at Quy Nhon fishing port.

The province’s Vice Chairman Tran Chau on July 16 attended a meeting on implementing some urgent tasks, which are relevant to EC’s requirements for Vietnam to fight against the illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing.

Despite many solutions, in all of 2018 and to date this year, the local authorities have dealt with 109 cases of Binh Dinh’s fishermen warned for intruding into waters of other countries in the region. A total of 35 ships/boats were detained.
